EL COMERCIO was launched on 2 September 1878 and has over 130 years of service to Asturias. In 1995 it joined La Voz de Avilés, the historic newspaper of the town that was founded in 1909. In the same year, it became part of the media group that is now Vocento. It is the most read newspaper in Gijón and the second most read in the Principality. Its share of both readership and circulation is about 23 percent, according to EGM* and OJD** data.
EL COMERCIO has three editions: the general Gijón edition, Asturias and Oriente, as well as La Voz de Avilés. Its readers enjoy a renewed offer of supplements, including Culturas, Dinero y Empleo, and gastronomical supplement Yantar. The newspaper completes its multimedia positioning with a local portal, the television channel La 10, and a radio station.
