Madrid, 7 July 2009.- Vocento has consolidated its position as the leader of the Spanish press, with almost 5.2 million readers, thanks to the readership of its 13 leading titles (ABC, El Correo, El Diario Vasco, El Diario Montañés, La Verdad, Ideal, Hoy, Sur, La Rioja, El Norte de Castilla, El Comercio, La Voz de Cádiz and Las Provincias) and the free daily Qué!, according to the second survey of the Estudio General de Medios (EGM) for 2009.

The leadership of Vocento is even more significant when the total audience of its brands in all media (press, radio, television and Internet) is included, with an overall coverage of 24,679,000 people, according to the survey.

In regional press, highlights have been the growth of La Rioja, whose readership has increased by 17% from the same survey last year, to 117,000 readers; Sur, up 16.2% to 201,000 readers; Hoy, with growth of 9.8% to 179,000 readers; La Verdad and El Norte de Castilla, up 7.3% to 266,000 and 250,000 readers respectively; El Diario Montañés with a readership of 208,000, up 6.1% from the same last year; and El Correo, with an additional 13,000 new readers and readership of 526,000.

In a context of falling radio audiences, Punto Radio is the only nationwide general radio broadcaster to have grown significantly in the second EGM survey, with a 14.7% rise in listeners, to 601,000 daily listeners and one million monthly listeners.

In this period, Punto Radio has attracted 77,000 new listeners, thanks, among other factors, to the good performance of Protagonistas, presented by Luis del Olmo, which added 55,000 new listeners, and to El Mirador, with Agustín Castellote, which has doubled its audience and obtained the best result in its history. Weekend programming has also maintained this trend, with 232,000 listeners on Sunday morning to the Ramón García programme, Siempre domingo. The Vocento radio station has consolidated its audience, confirming the good progress being made by the business.
