Vocento launches the first private sector network of regional DTT channels

  • The regional channels of the network will be fed by the high quality programming of Viacom (Nickelodeon, MTV and Paramount Comedy) and by in-house productions of a regional nature.

Madrid, 1 October 2009.- Vocento today launched the first privately owned network of regional DTT channels, which will be available free-to-air, with schedules based on the successful content of the Viacom production house (Nickelodeon, MTV, Paramount Comedy, and others) and which will also include regional content of a factual nature.

The regional channels will be broadcast in Madrid, the region of Valencia, Andalusia, the Basque Country and Murcia, to a potential audience of 16 million viewers, and will provide innovative programming, including animation, entertainment shows, comedy and information, to a mainly young audience, around the clock, 24 hours a day.

This business model will enable advertisers to broadcast campaigns which reach the full coverage of the network in one showing, or to place them in the region or regions that are most appropriate to them. The marketing of these advertising spaces, which represent a market worth over 150 million euros, will be carried out by CMVocento, the sales company for Vocento media.

The schedules of the new channels will include children's content from Nickelodeon, such as Rugrats, Hey Arnold, My life as a teenage robot, and the X´s; and also comedy and entertainment shows from brands such as MTV and Paramount Comedy, including shows such as Celebrity Deathmatch, First of Zen, Making the Band, and Boiling Point, from MTV; and New Comedians, La hora Chanante and Ascensores, from Paramount Comedy.

This new regional television network forms part of the strategic agreement that Vocento reached in June with the entertainment company Viacom, in order to strengthen its presence in the audiovisual market by including high quality programming in its DTT schedules, in addition to the local news content that Vocento supplies thanks to the presence of its leading brands across Spain.

Vocento is a leading multimedia company in Spain, thanks to the strength of its brands, which have a significant presence in all areas of information and entertainment, including the press, supplements, magazines, television, radio, audiovisual production, movie distribution, and the Internet.

The national, regional and local positioning of Vocento, its permanent commitment to innovation, and the strength of its brands, enable the Company to extend its reach beyond its competitors, covering over 24.6 million people, according to the EGM. For more information, go to Vocento.com.
