Board of directors' members and responsibilities
Enrique de Ybarra holds a law degree from the University of Navarra. He is also chairman of the Vocento Foundation and has extensive academic experience in the media, including Information Sciences at the Universidad Complutense and a Master\'s of Science at the Graduate School of Journalism of Columbia University in New York. As a journalist, he worked as a correspondent for the news agency Colpisa, firstly in London in 1975 and then in the United States. He was then made responsible for the cultural area of the El Correo newspaper and continued to work overseas as a special correspondent.
Since the creation of Vocento in 2001, Enrique de Ybarra has held senior positions in the company, and has been chairman of the Editorial Committee since May 2007 as well as a director of El Correo, El Diario Vasco, El Diario Montañés, La Rioja, Ideal and El Comercio, six of the group\'s regional newspapers.
He is also intensely involved in the world of culture and is strongly committed to education and to charitable causes. Among others, he is chairman of the BMW Jury Prize for Painting, vice chairman of the ABC Collection Foundation, a patron of the Foundation for Help against Drug Addiction (FAD) and of the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija Foundation, a member of the Jury for Communication and the Humanities of the Prince of Asturias Foundation, and ex vice chairman of the Spanish Association of Foundations.
He is a recognised connoisseur of Spanish literature of the sixteenth century, of ancient and biblical history and an authority on the Basque Country. He is also a supporter of Los balcones del Amado Nervo, a new salon for Spanish and Latin American poetry.
