El Norte de Castilla started publication on 17th October 1856,andt celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2006. This makes it the oldest paper in the Spanish press, and also the most read newspaper in Castilla y León. It joined Grupo Correo in 1994. Its readership and circulation market shares are 21% and 19%, according to OJD figures.
It is a major benchmark in Castilla y León, and covers the entire territory with a large network of editorial offices and collaborators in five editions: Valladolid, Palencia, Zamora, Segovia and Castilla y León. It also publishes a number of specific supplements such as La Hemeroteca, Deporte Base, Expectativas and El Norte Universidad.
